For the purposes of this page I choose to make no distinction between those who I would regard as real Christians (i.e. who are born again and love Jesus) and those who are nominally Christian (e.g. the population of Europe).

Christians have been involved in a large number of evil things. As the purpose of this site is to list the things for which Christians are actively hated I will not feature largely forgotten events.

The Crusades.

On November 27, 1095, Pope Urban II gave an important speech at the end of a church council in Clermont, France. In it he called upon the nobility of Western Europe, the Franks, to go to the East and assist their Christian brothers, the Byzantines, against the attacks of the Muslim Turks. He also apparently encouraged them to liberate Jerusalem, the most sacred and beloved city in Christendom, from the domination of Muslims who had ruled it since taking it from the Christian Byzantines in A.D.. 638. The very first crusade, the "peoples crusade" started with a massacre of German Jews ("why not start at home?") followed by the relevant crusaders being killed by the Turks when they reached Asia Minor. By the 1099 they had reached Jerusalem and took it.

This was the start of a series of crusades when people basically killed each other in large numbers. The story is very messy and not one to be proud of.

Child Abuse.

I am personally appalled by the cover up applied by the Catholic Church to child abuse by its priests. There have always been problems with child abuse, in every religion and every culture, but the Catholic Church seems to have much more abuse happening than would be expected.

It is quite possible that their policy of "Celibate" priests (who should not ever have sex) doesn't work as well as it might: I know of at least one Catholic priest who has had a vasectomy to prevent him making anyone pregnant.
